To provide accessible vocational training and basic education for adults to increase their viability for a career.

A board member is a volunteer position with a two-year term. This position is an executive member of the board of directors of BEATSchool and is to be appointed in a manner consistent with the bylaws. In this position you must be accountable to the Board and, like other members, have no authority to direct staff or act on matters outside of duties outlined in their position description.

Preferred Experience:
  •  Work experience in construction trades, culinary arts, or in education.
  • Any experience working in a team or group setting.
  • Membership of a minority group in general or in trades ( women, people of color, disabled, etc) is highly encouraged.
 
BOARD MEMBER DUTIES:
  • Establish the nonprofit’s mission and purpose.
  • Selecting, supporting, and supervising the position of Director.
  • Organizational planning of the nonprofit.
  • Monitoring and managing financial resources of the nonprofit.
  • Assessing and developing professional skills of the board.
  • Serve on committees established by the board.
  • Recruit new board members.
  • Tell your professional and personal networks about the nonprofit.
  • Commit to supporting the nonprofit financially or through materials either personally or through your networks at any level above $0.00 as able.
  • Attend board meetings and important related meetings at an 80% attendance rate at any calendar year.
  • Communicate through email, phone, or text and reply within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Depending on the size of the many variables of duties, a board member’s hours can be anywhere from an hour a month to part-time responsibility. Active board members should anticipate a time commitment that averages one to five hours per month.
