Harvest Hands Food Safety Training

This training is a prerequisite to volunteer on the Harvest Hands crew. Please review the requirements for this volunteer program before registering.

Harvest Hands Volunteer Requirements 

  • Must attend one food safety training
    • Trainings take place once a month throughout the growing season

      • Every last Tuesday of the month, 2-5pm

  • Ages 14 and up

    • Ages 14-18 need a parent/guardian signature

  • Previous farming or gardening experience a plus, but not required

  • Must be flexible to work in many extreme weather conditions, not mind getting very dirty, and can coexist with all kinds of bugs

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks

  • Good communication and listening skills, work well with others

  • Attention to detail

Training must be attended in-person. If you are unable to do so this month, we welcome you to register next month.

In this 3-hour Food Safety training, you will learn how to set-up our harvest processing area, our harvest standard operating procedures, and how to prevent food-borne illness during harvest time.

This training includes a classroom presentation, farm tour, and mock harvest set-up.

We believe that growing food is a community effort and we would like for you to join us to share the joy and hard work of harvest season!

Volunteers are not permitted to participate in harvest shifts unless they have received this training. If you have questions, please direct them to volunteer@jvtf.org.

Requirement Details
Wondering if you should register to participate in training? Based on the CDC guidelines, we are asking you the following questions:
  1. Have you been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19? See the CDC’s risk assessment guidance.

  2. Do you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19? Symptoms can include a cough or shortness of breath or at least two of the following: Fever, Chills, Repeated shaking with chills, Muscle pain, Headache, Sore throat, New loss of taste or smell. See the CDC’s symptom information.

If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, we ask you not to register. We are doing all we can to align with best practices and keep our community healthy.
Volunteers have access to fresh produce as available; dependent on programming needs.
Parking Details
Parking is available on site in our main lot and smaller delivery lot. If full, adjacent street parking is free.
