Success: Completing my year long service term with the Swearer Center! Maintaining a job with BTS! Couldn't be more ideal.

Challenge: Saying goodbye to my great cohort! The resources at the Swearer Center will be missed!

Aspiration: Return to Brown in perhaps an academic capacity! Do more great things with Beat the Streets as we grow into BTSNE.

Thank you so much for a great experience!

Success: I did it!!!! I was able to secure my first grant just shy of my year long service term with the Swearer Center. $5,100 dollars will be provided by the Community Reinvestment Fund for COVID-19 related relief. I was able to present enough evidence for a need of funding to get the approved on this grant! Super excited.

Challenge: A challenge during this week was definitely the holiday that proved to decrease our numbers and consistency quite substantially. Hopefully we can rebound after a long and much needed break. Another challenge has been the different coaching styles. Everyone does things differently in terms of workflow and getting things in on time and practice structure. A one size fits all approach does not work!

Goal: A goal of mine is to prepare successfully for the winter break camp we are planning (virtually) and also comb through a ton of student data that is coming in from multiple avenues (website, USAW, PASA, PPSD), amalgamate it, and organize it so we know exactly the state of affairs of our organization. All things considered, we are in a good place to move forward and hope that I was able to provide some degree of sustainability to this organization over my Swearer Center AmeriCorps service term!

Success: Numbers are gradually stabilizing and there's been a considerable amount of buzz around our virtual season! PASA and PPSD are pleased with what we've been able to roll out and the quality of our programming. Kids are even mentioning it gives them something consistent to look forward to in their life. At the end of the day that is the goal, and to hear them say that is moving.

Challenge: No challenges to name. I love what I do!

Aspiration: Continue to work with and support Beat the Streets long after my AmeriCorps service term. I feel like I've made a lifelong connection to these people and it's altered my life trajectory tremendously!

Success: We successfully rolled out the beginnings of our virtual season this week! There were a lot of nerves and obstacles getting everything in order (we're still not there), but things are definitely coming along. We were able to secure 11 dedicated, get them properly vetted, and allotted to one of the six middle school teams. We've also seen a great degree of interest from our middle school programs with over two dozen registrants in the first week alone!

Challenge: One challenge has been getting all the paperwork in order for the 11 of the coaches plus Silas and I for a total of 13. There are three background checks through various different mediums, DCYF, fingerprints, internet use forms, mandatory reporting, confidentiality agreements, safesport certifications, and other elements to their onboarding. It's been tough to cover everything on all fronts (PASA, PPSD, USAW) entirely virtual.

Aspiration: An aspiration of mine to to meet our first quota at the end of November for a total of 24 registrants. There is 5 components, though, to registration; consent, waiver, USAW registration, PASA reg, and athlete survey. We need all of these components done in order for them to be fully registered. Many of times a kid misses one of the steps and they aren't considered a complete data point under they satisfy the remaining requirements. Hopefully we can meet this first goal to secure our funding!

Success: We successfully held our coaches' refresher before the season kickoff! We have 12 coaches onboarded for our 6 teams, comprised of a head coach and an assistant coach. We are making significant strides on paperwork and getting them the necessary tools to be quality mentors/coaches. They come from all over the U.S. but are largely college educated and hold full time positions within companies, academia, wrestling, and other nonprofits!

Challenge: One challenge has been tracking down coaches for the necessary paperwork, forms, trainings, modules, and background checks completed. There is like 9 different things coaches need to complete before they can safely hold a Zoom virtual practice. All this vetting is for good reason and the safety of the kids but it definitely gives me the run around. Job security I suppose.

Aspiration: Submit this RI relief grant fund. Anywhere from $17,000-30,000! Fingers crossed something comes of it. Another aspiration of mine is successfully rolling out the 2020-2021 BTS virtual season next week. There is so much that goes into, but I am feeling confident we can engage kids and provide meaningful programming. Our coaches are great!

Success: Things seem to be in a good place for the start of the season, 11/09! Silas and I have developed and built out so many good things for the kids and coaches this year. We've taken everything entirely virtual and implemented a Minutes to Success virtual challenge between teams. Funding has allowed us to do a 3-day weekly practice schedule from 4-5pm with academic enrichment. Everything will be done on Zoom. We've made do given the circumstances and it's all looking hopeful for some engagement.

Challenge: Making sure all 12 of our coaches are up-to-date with paperwork, BCI's, fingerprints, and other PPSD forms! It's been a lot of tracking down but we are making headway. Another challenge has been securing a grant.

Aspiration: One goal for the future includes having a successful start to the season! Meeting our contractual quotas will be very important in sustaining the program. Hopefully we can meet these numbers. We also are going to have a regional fundraiser to kick-off BTSNE and we have set a goal of around 30k to start. Hopefully we can build outward from this new starting point!

Success: the Beat the Streets NE board has officially been established! Things will move a lot quicker now with the higher-ups situated. This is a huge stride in officializing the merger! Silas and the entire Beat the Streets organization took a much needed day off. It was greatly appreciated. Our website is almost done! Take a look at it @ http://www.beatthestreetsprovidence.org/! We are making significant headway on the grant mentioned last week with the Bryant group!

Obstacle; Had some personal affairs that interrupted the feng shui of this week but what are you going to do.Staying up to date with the merger developments and sort of teaching myself how I'm going to fall into that is also another challenge. Need to balance my investment in grad school applications and my VISTA role these next few weeks, also.

Aspiration; A goal of mine is to make sure I fulfill my role in this merger as headache-less as possible. I want the BTS team to know they can count on me for miscellaneous tasks and odds and ends during this process. Hopefully when my term is up BTS is in a better place than when I came in.

Success; A major success was a grant opportunity that was made available to me through a mutual connection within the Providence Public School District. The liason forwarded a 15K-75K COVID-19 community relief fund grant for youth services to us. We have so many projects and aspirations in the works that this is perfect timing. We also have college intern and human capital to make this a very real possibility. We are in the process of drafting a narrative around possible expenditures!

Challenge; A challenge has been finishing my graduate school applications, looking forward to next steps, while also staying present in my current role. I'll admit I have been a little stir crazy regarding movement forward in my own personal life, but I need to remember to embrace the moment. Also, the lingering merger has posed to be a big challenge in just staying on the same page and motivating the board members to finalize paperwork. It's been a headache.

Aspiration; Increase recruitment numbers and reengaging kids is very important during this time. We haven't had the mass numbers we are accustomed to as a youth development organization because of the pandemic and fears around it. Slowly picking up steam this year will be important. The formal season begins November 9th. We are roughly three weeks away. Time to start incentivizing kids!

Success; PASA numbers have been stabilizing a bit. We have been able to secure the necessary four coaches for in-person programming through PASA at the recreation centers throughout Providence. They've done the necessary paperwork and we've got them vetted and placed! We've been able to get a dozen or so registrants and a few novel ones! This is all you can ask for considering everything.

Challenge; No obstacles to name at the moment. I am so grateful and want to take the time to thank the Swearer Center and Beat the Streets here! What a serendipitously invaluable occurrence this has been!

    Goals;
    -Secure a grant
    -Cultivate conversation with past donors
    -Finish website
    -Establish million minutes challenge
-Reach 20 kids through in-person PASA session
-Talk to Silas about next steps after VISTA
    -Finish Grad School Apps

Success; This week's successes included great strides with our Bryant University management internship group. These 6 students have completed a grant template and a professional message to all previous funders thanking them for their investment levels. They've created a coaches' orientation presentation and are currently editing a 2020 Beat the Streets highlight video on Youtube. All wonderful stuff! They are super invested.

Challenge; I think I am hitting that AmeriCorps VISTA phasal psychological plateau if you will. Need to maintain engagement and find new ways to keep things novel. I am thinking it will pass. This is just a personal obstacle.

Aspiration; Looking forward to finalizing the merger with Boston Youth Wrestling and facilitating that. Understanding the process of that and my place within it has been a bit of a challenge but I think just a forward looking catalyst of mine that has been keeping me enticed by the program's direction. Good things to come!
